Internal Security Act ( ISA)

The police had detained a son of ISA detainee Mat Shah Mohd Satray together with the mother who was involved in the anti ISA protest on Saturday, 1st August 2009. Mat Shah has been in Kamunting camp for almost eight years. I felt pity for the wife and family which has been a horrible eight years not knowing when the husband will be released. I do not blame them for taking part in the protest. If they were to do it alone I do not think that their grievances would be heard, her son has been growing up without his father since age nine. What else can a teenager who has gone through such a devastating life do but join his mother in the protest.

I strongly think that the Government should learn to listen to people opinions and views. With such a predicament faced by those whose family members have been held under ISA, there is no doubt that ISA should be reviewed. May be the government should consider the following amendment:-
  • To detain suspect without trial for one year
  • Second year to charge in court, failure to do so, the suspect to be released.
  • Suspect to report to the nearby police station on a monthly basis for four years.
